New air handling units deliver significant energy and space savings at Adelaide Exchange

At Adelaide Exchange in Belfast, ageing air handling units with gas burners were using large amounts of energy and taking up valuable plant space. By upgrading the ventilation system with two IV Produkt air handling units, we significantly improved energy performance, reduced carbon emissions, freed up plant space, and enabled remote operation through IV Produkt Cloud.

Recovering energy that was previously lost

Two of the main goals of the project were to reduce energy use and to decarbonise. The previous air handling units relied on gas-fired heating and did not recover any energy from the extract air.

We supplied two high-efficiency AHUs with thermal wheels that recover extract air heat and transfer it back into the system. With a heat recovery efficiency of 81%, the units significantly reduce the demand for additional heating while still maintaining a good indoor climate.

Based on local weather data and the building’s operating pattern, annual gas consumption is estimated to be reduced by approximately 354,000 kWh. This corresponds to a reduction of around 65 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year and an estimated payback period of 5 years.

Saved plant space creates new opportunities

The combined footprint of the air handling unit installations was reduced from 48 m2 to only 18 m2, releasing approximately 30 m2 of valuable plant space, giving the property owner greater flexibility when developing the site and its technical systems.

The old air handling units were taking up 48 m2 of plant space.

The new air handling units are taking up 18 m2, saving a total of 30 m2 of plant space.

IV Produkt Cloud simplifies operation and maintenance

The air handling units are connected to IV Produkt Cloud, giving authorised users access to operating data, alarms, schedules, and trends from any location. This provides the local O&M team with better insight into day-to-day operation and system performance.

With remote access to the units, we can also support the customer with service and troubleshooting more efficiently if needed.
